Title: Assistant Attorney General – Criminal Appeals

Salary: $83,522.92 annually

Position Summary The primary duty of the position is Criminal Appeals: represent the State of Florida in all criminal appeals filed with the District Court of Appeal and the Florida Supreme Court.

Responsibilities

Supervise timely filing of necessary pleadings and documents on appeal.

Review assignments of error and research necessary to prepare briefs.

Provide oral argument and manage all responsibilities attending the prosecution of a criminal appeal.

Represent the state in federal habeas corpus proceedings for state prisoners, responding to claims asserting federal constitutional rights violations.

Supervise preparation of pleadings, exhibits, and handle post‑trial proceedings.

Handle appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Handle extraordinary litigation in state and federal courts and other special assignments.

Qualifications

Admission to the Florida Bar.

Two years of professional legal experience, or membership in good standing of another state bar with admission to the Florida Bar within 12 months of appointment.

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
