Job Summary Under direct supervision of the Employment Manager, the Vocational Counselor will be responsible for the development and operation of employment services.

Essential Job Duties

Provide oversight of Adult Career & Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES‑VR) and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) employment services.

Complete all required training hours prescribed by funders.

Provide services, documentation and billing within designated time frames.

Provide guidance through one‑to‑one vocational counseling to consumers.

Develop a collaborative relationship with funders and the consumer’s natural and collateral support.

Provide job development for either paid or unpaid work.

Conduct site visits per best practices.

Maintain long‑term follow‑up services to consumers.

Develop and maintain good working relationships with community employers.

Provide job coaching to maximize the success of job placements.

Oversee the conduct, safety and supervision of individuals participating in activities.

Provide limited case management services when necessary.

Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled by supervisor.

Respond to quality assurance requests for documentation.

Other job duties, as assigned.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Interact with staff and consumers of diverse cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Work cooperatively and collaboratively with coworkers, supervisors, organizations, the general public, and local government offices.

Keep abreast of all state and agency regulations/operations procedures.

Maintain core training requirements.

Abide by The Community Place Code of Conduct.

Physical Elements

Must be able to physically perform stooping, kneeling, walking, lifting, grasping, pulling, standing, talking, hearing.

Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Must be able to travel as needed frequently, getting in and out of a car both indoors and outdoors, and may have exposure to various weather conditions.

Qualifications

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of relevant human services experience or four (4) years of experience in the provision of work readiness service.

Accepted: Associate’s degree in human services and two (2) years of relevant experience.

Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license with a clean driving record.

A criminal background check will be conducted as a condition of employment.
