Job Summary
The Surgical Scrub Technologist anticipates the needs of the surgical team, establishes and maintains a sterile field during surgical procedures, assists in instrument counts, and ensures all supplies are prepared and available.
Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures.
Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment.
Assists in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts pre‑operatively and intra‑operatively with the circulating nurse.
Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
Assists in maintaining physician preference cards and specimen retention.
Transports surgical equipment for cleaning and reprocessing.
Supports emergency preparedness drills and infection control surveillance.
Serves as a resource to the health care team and attends mandatory training and meetings.
Communicates effectively and upholds patient privacy and confidentiality.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; completion of a Scrub Technician Program.
Certification in surgical scrubbing is preferable.
1–2 years experience in scrubbing across multiple specialties.
Experience with MAKO, Ortho, and Spine procedures.
General familiarity with medical terminology and OR protocols.
