Job Summary:
The Controls Systems Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an integrated multi‑site controls and automation solution spanning Supermicro’s global facilities for rack integration, burn‑in, and cooling infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
System Architecture & Integration: Design and implement a multi‑site controls architecture; define network topology, redundancy and high‑availability requirements; develop and maintain standardized frameworks for BACnet, Modbus, SNMP and OPC‑UA; support integration with enterprise BMS, SCADA and analytics tools.
Device Connectivity & Configuration: Commission and configure sensors, meters, CDUs, cooling‑tower controllers and other I/O devices; collaborate with IT for IP allocations, VLAN assignments and data‑security compliance; implement diagnostic toolsets.
Data Collection & Storage: Architect and deploy a centralized telemetry database; define data‑retention, redundancy and backup policies; integrate with analytics pipelines for capacity tracking and optimization.
Visualization & User Interface: Collaborate with software teams to build intuitive dashboards and mobile/web front‑ends; develop visualization layers using Ignition SCADA, Grafana or comparable frameworks.
Construction Project Integration: Participate in new construction and retrofit projects; define and review controls specifications; validate installed systems during commissioning.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with Global Facilities, Production Engineering, Architecture & Infrastructure for BMS modernization and control initiatives.
Standards & Documentation: Establish internal standards for controls system design, protocol implementation and data naming; produce technical documentation; train internal staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
7+ years of experience in industrial controls, building automation or data‑center systems integration.
Deep familiarity with BACnet, Modbus TCP/IP, SNMP and related protocols.
Experience designing or deploying BMS/SCADA systems (Ignition SCADA, Niagara, Tridium, Wonderware).
Strong background in database integration (SQL, InfluxDB, PostgreSQL).
Proficient in Python or scripting for SCADA/BMS configuration.
Knowledge of network architecture (subnets, VLANs, firewall rules, IP management).
Excellent documentation, communication, and cross‑department coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in data‑center or high‑density rack integration environments.
Familiarity with liquid‑cooling, CDU/CDM, and tower control systems.
Experience deploying multi‑site redundant controls servers.
Knowledge of industrial IoT security and edge computing best practices.
Familiarity with Grafana, Node‑RED, Ignition Perspective or equivalent visualization tools.
Exposure to Supermicro rack products, burn‑in lines, and production automation.
Success Metrics
All global sites connected to a centralized controls network with ≥ 99.9% uptime.
Standardized telemetry and controls data available to Facilities, Rack and Production within Q2 post‑hire.
Controls and BMS design standards embedded in all new construction and retrofit projects.
Implementation of cross‑department dashboards and alerting systems by phase 2 (6–9 months).
Measurable improvement in burn‑in line utilization, tower efficiency and diagnostic turnaround time.
Salary Range $160,000 – $190,000
