Overview Underwrites policies within underwriting authority, with limited guidance from leadership as needed. Makes decisions on whether to underwrite business by making analytical, data-driven decisions based on data and information provided, including pricing the risk. In parts of North America, more likely to underwrite complex or unusual policies, or those of high individual line size.
Responsibilities
Manages portfolio of brokers/agents and clients. Develops and underwrites profitable business, acting as a representative for Liberty. Maintains a strong market presence with established relationships with agents and brokers. Looks to strengthen these relationships and develop new ones.
Contributes ideas for product development and participates in development and execution. Contributes to team projects (e.g., process or tool improvement).
Understands the work implications of relevant legislation and regulation. Collaborates effectively across teams, stakeholders, and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Directors of Underwriting in GRS North America).
Mentors junior underwriters and new hires (not as a line manager). May analyze department portfolios and make suggestions for development. May recognize and communicate emerging trends of exposures within line of business expertise.
Qualifications
Degree in Business or equivalent typically required.
A minimum of 2.5 years, typically 3 or more years, of progressive underwriting experience and/or related experience.
CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred.
Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility, including competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process; proficient in qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques.
Demonstrated understanding of complex technical underwriting issues and ability to define and implement necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows.
Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business.
Pay and Benefits Base pay range: $68,000.00/yr - $212,000.00/yr. This range is provided by Liberty Mutual Insurance; your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
Pay philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range reflects competitive market value and opportunities for progression.
