Overview

The Director of the Eccles Lab School at Salt Lake Community College is responsible for the planning, development, leadership, and logistical oversight for child care at a state-licensed facility that is also accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and serves as a Lab School for learning best practices in early care and education. The Lab School serves as the SLCC Taylorsville Redwood Campus childcare center for the children (ages 2-5) of SLCC students, faculty, and staff. The Director will work cooperatively with the administration and faculty to meet the goals and objectives of the Family and Human Studies (FHS) academic department. The Director will engage with parents, students, faculty, and staff to support the care and development of children, direct operations by organizing, scheduling, and evaluating childcare staff and programs, and oversee childcare and other services provided to students, parents, and department faculty. The Director will work with faculty to maintain and/or realize the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the FHS department. The role may include teaching college-level courses in the FHS Department if qualified and supported by Eccles Lab School staff. The Director will engage in outreach with community partners, the FHS academic program, the Office of Child Care, Child Care Licensing, high schools, and Early Childhood conferences. The incumbent is responsible for staying aware of statewide improvements in childcare and related initiatives. Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, safe childcare in compliance with licensing regulations and health standards for employees, college students, children, and staff. Develop and implement ongoing emergency preparedness procedures and maintain facility equipment. Collaborate with state agencies, Risk Management, Facilities, and the Universal Access Coordinator to ensure ADA compliance and safety. Serve as building marshal (safety officer) and participate in site emergency response activities. Oversee operations by organizing, scheduling, and evaluating childcare staff and programs; supervise all childcare staff. Act as budget center manager for Eccles Lab School operations; prepare and monitor a budget, oversee revenue and expenses, and submit required reports in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Review and maintain contractual obligations with the Head Start program and advocate for sponsored childcare activities. Oversee payments for children’s attendance, negotiate payment agreements when arrears occur, and coordinate with college collections agencies as needed. Direct the CACFP at all SLCC childcare sites, coordinating with sites to prepare budgets, verify expenses, and submit reimbursements to the federal program. Maintain accreditation with NAEYC and serve as a liaison between College policies and Child Care licensing requirements. Support college students by assisting with assignments, writing letters of recommendation, and facilitating undergraduate research as appropriate. Support outreach and partnership development with community partners and the broader community. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Family and Human Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences, Early Childhood Education, or related field; full-time experience in a childcare center. NAEYC administrator qualifications or equivalent credentials; experience meeting pedagogical and operational administrator qualifications. Master’s degree in Early Childhood (preferred) and significant experience directing a large childcare facility and managing a budget. Experience with childcare management software and all related regulatory requirements; strong budget oversight ability. Proven ability to direct, hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff; establish positive working relationships with employees and diverse stakeholders. Ability to develop developmentally appropriate curricula and educational programming for parents, students, faculty, and staff; provide professional development for early care providers. Strong communication skills to liaise with College policies, licensing, and diverse constituencies; adept at conflict resolution and mediation with parents and staff. Proficiency with computer applications (spreadsheets and word processing) and ability to work with diverse groups within the College and community. Must meet the pedagogical and operational administrator qualifications from NAEYC as described (see requirements) including relevant higher education credits in business/administration; state teacher certification where applicable. Consistent with job requirements, full-time, paid work experience in a childcare lab school at a higher education institution. Other Information
