Assistant or Associate Research Professor (Housing Economist) University: University of Denver, Location: Denver, CO Work Type: Faculty Full‑Time Job No: 498402 Salary Range: $150,000 – $180,000

Position Summary The Housing Economist will be hired as a Research Faculty (non‑tenure track) within the Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management.

The appointment supports a new Housing Research Center and advances interdisciplinary research focused on housing access and affordability.

The role is grant‑funded and the term of the appointment is contingent on available funding.

Essential Functions

Research:

Conduct and publish research in housing policy and real estate markets, develop and apply Terner Labs’ Housing Policy Simulator, and produce evidence‑driven studies of pricing, zoning, and financing interventions.

Collaboration:

Partner with researchers at the University of Denver, Terner Labs, the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute, the Scrivner Institute for Public Policy, and other institutions to support interdisciplinary projects.

Engagement:

Present research at conferences, forums, and community meetings; contribute to the intellectual life of the university and advance policy solutions.

Secondary Functions

Industry Presentations:

Serve as subject‑matter expert and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.

Teaching:

Guest lecture across campus programs and participate in the Executive Certificate in Affordable Housing and the Burns School’s multifaceted curriculum.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Expertise in Colorado’s housing market and policy analysis.

Strong written and oral communication for varied audiences.

Experience with economic forecasting and econometric modeling.

High standards of research integrity; independent and collaborative work.

Ability to supervise and mentor direct reports.

Project management skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Terner Housing Policy Simulator.

Understanding of equity, sustainability, and housing intersections.

Leadership and teamwork capabilities.

Required Qualifications

M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Economics (preferred) with a focus on housing and real estate markets.

Six or more years of applied research experience in housing economics with actionable insights.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced analytical skills, including research design, econometric analysis, and data visualization.

Proficiency in econometric and GIS software; coding skills in Python.

Deep understanding of macroeconomic, demographic, and institutional drivers influencing housing markets.

Work Schedule Faculty schedules vary by term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas.
