Since 2011, UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status. Thornton's 2 East is a 26‑bed inpatient unit specializing in medicine and cardiology with advanced heart failure patients. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for providing both administrative and clinical leadership. Key responsibilities include: Developing standards of care coordination that promote high quality, cost‑effective delivery of care. Ensuring effective utilization of resources across the continuum, excellent customer service, and compliance with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements. Spearheading innovative projects and approaches involving multidisciplinary teams for system improvements that affect patient outcomes across the organization. Planning, scheduling, and organizing work for the department to ensure efficient use of personnel, space, and facilities. Supervising staff, screening candidates, interviewing, and hiring new employees. Ensuring staff competence, compliance with licensure/certification requirements, and maintaining related documentation. Conducting performance appraisals, counseling staff, and taking disciplinary action as required in consultation with Human Resources/Labor Relations. Developing and integrating annual operational, capital, and personnel budgets with Finance. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing. RN license issued by the State of California. BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with a commitment to gain ART within six (6) months of hire. Five (5+) years of relevant experience, including at least two (2) years of recent inpatient acute care RN experience in IMU, PCU, or ICU, with at least one (1) year of Charge/Resource/Quality RN experience. Experience with cardiac or LVAD patients. Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability to manage complex workflow and multiple priorities. In‑depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards, systems, external regulations, and internal policies. Strong knowledge of HR management policies, including training, monitoring, evaluating, and documenting employee performance. Strong analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to prepare and present reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals. Knowledge of business software, specialized applications, and data management systems used in nursing units. Demonstrated hospital management skills with progressive expertise in patient care services. Knowledge of managing disaster incidents and sentinel events. Ability to function in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment while maintaining professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Nursing or relevant area. Recent cardiovascular RN experience. Clinical area certification and/or Nursing Administration Certification. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Lean Six Sigma or process improvement. Special Conditions

Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call, and across multiple locations based on the 24‑hour Medical Center's needs. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical. Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 – $259,800 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $63.51 – $124.43. Compensation is based on experience, skills, knowledge, licensure, certifications, and organizational need. EEO and Accessibility Statement
