Job Title: Director of Executive Communications, OSUCCC – James
Department: James Administration
Scope: Lead and oversee communications strategies for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. The role drives national reputation and thought leadership content, executive communications, and multi‑channel messaging to advance the CEO’s vision and the OSUCCC – James brand.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy Development – Collaborate with senior leadership, subject‑matter experts and stakeholders to define the executive communications strategy for the CEO’s office, ensuring alignment with broader institutional messages and initiatives.
Content Planning and Production – Ideate, plan, write and produce high‑quality content across all channels, including book chapters, editorials, speeches, presentations, correspondence, event briefings, backgrounders, talking points, national reputation pieces, newsletters, social media, and web content.
Editorial Management – Manage all stages of content creation: develop editorial calendar and topics, research, interview, draft, review, proofread, fact‑check, and edit content to fit the Medical Center editorial style and brand guidelines.
Content Distribution Coordination – Advise on distribution plans and hold senior‑level publishing rights for OSUCCC – James digital properties.
Presentation Development – Draft presentations for the CEO to deliver at scientific meetings, board meetings and special events.
Content Work‑Team Leadership – Lead ad hoc teams focused on content improvement and problem solving, coordinating with faculty, staff and external consultants.
Effectiveness Measurement – Set benchmarks, analyze and report on the impact of the CEO’s reputation content, and recommend continual improvement.
Supervision – Oversee the OSUCCC – James executive communications team, ensuring timely delivery and high quality of all projects.
Other – Assist in all content and communications for the Office of the CEO and OSUCCC – James; serve as liaison and consultant on published material.
