Cloud Platform Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer Detroit, MI – $167,032 – $226,686

Overview At General Motors, the Cloud Platform team enables our organizations to safely and efficiently adopt the cloud. We build secure, reliable, and cost‑effective services that empower our peers to confidently deliver products. As Site Reliability Engineers, you will help transition General Motors to a reliability‑first software organization by collaborating across teams to deliver Production Readiness Reviews, SLOs, and Incident Reviews, and by contributing to a multi‑cloud Platform as a Service that powers millions of customer interactions.

What You’ll Do

Develop and maintain automation tools and infrastructure to streamline software deployment, configuration management, and system monitoring.

Monitor performance and availability of software systems, identify and resolve issues, and implement proactive measures to prevent future incidents.

Respond to incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis, participate in post‑incident reviews, and implement corrective actions.

Collaborate with software development teams to ensure reliability and scalability considerations are incorporated into design and implementation.

Identify opportunities for process improvement, implement best practices, and lead initiatives to enhance system reliability and performance.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java) with familiarity across multiple ecosystems.

Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to resolve issues and complete tasks effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Git, CI/CD, and open‑source development.

Experience with event‑driven architectures or services such as Kafka.

Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Terragrunt, ARM templates, YAML pipelines, Bicep).

Knowledge of AWS and Azure services such as Event Hubs, AKS/EKS.

Experience with observability tools (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, DataDog).

Kubernetes experience, including app deployment, service meshes (Istio, Consul), and networking.

Understanding of cloud networking (VPC, VNET, subnet, DNS, load balancer).

Knowledge of Azure security, cryptography, Vault integration, and TLS certificates.

GM does not provide immigration‑related sponsorship for this role. The position is hybrid; the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least three times a week. This job is not eligible for relocation benefits.
