Position Responsibilities The Medical Laboratory Scientist I performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas, licensed/certified as required. Duties include analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens, following laboratory policies, maintaining quality control, and delivering excellent customer service.
Core Duties
Pre-analytical activities: equipment maintenance, documentation, inventory control, specimen collection, specimen processing, cleaning and disinfection, quality control and calibration.
Analytical testing: efficient and accurate execution of tests, participation in proficiency testing, adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations.
Post-analytical: reporting results, including abnormal findings, following procedures.
Training: orientation and training for new employees and medical technology students; act as preceptor when assigned.
Customer support: guide technicians and support staff, resolve service issues within guidelines, facilitate workflow.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological science, medical laboratory, or related field, or equivalent education and training; Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemistry, physics, biology, or related field preferred.
One year of Clinical Lab experience.
Laboratory Licensure in appropriate specialty for the department or location (for licensure states) or a national certification (ASCP, AAB, or AMT) for non-licensure states, unless grandfathered per state requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemistry, physics, biology, or related field.
One year of Clinical Lab experience.
