Overview

A Data Security Specialist is responsible for protecting an organization’s sensitive information by designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security measures. This role focuses on identifying vulnerabilities, preventing data breaches, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Responsibilities

Develop and enforce data security policies, protocols, and procedures. Monitor and analyze security breaches and investigate incidents. Implement encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection / prevention systems. Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing. Manage access control, ensuring only authorized personnel have access to data. Train staff on data protection best practices and incident response procedures. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with standards like GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, or ISO. Collaborate with IT, legal, compliance, and business units for holistic security posture. Support audits and respond to internal / external security reviews. Required Skills

Strong understanding of data loss prevention (DLP), encryption standards, and SIEM tools. Experience with operating systems (Windows, Linux), firewalls, and networking protocols. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their security features. Proficient in scripting (Python, PowerShell) and forensic tools. Knowledge of regulations and compliance standards (PCI-DSS, NIST). Preferred Certifications

CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) CompTIA Security+ GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification) CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional) ISO / IEC Lead Implementer or Auditor AWS / Azure / GCP Security Certifications Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field. A master’s degree or specialized training in cybersecurity is a plus.
