Critical Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer, Field Engineering Amazon Web Services (AWS)

As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers, from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will be the go‑to engineering resource for your region when technical advice is needed, and will use your subject‑matter expertise to engage with diverse teams to solve problems, drive improvements, and build innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

Support full life‑cycle of data center operations, including design, construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) and create corrective action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.

Provide operational support, ad‑hoc training, and review of complex operating procedures for critical equipment.

Lead conceptual design for data‑center upgrades that increase capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability.

Collaborate with data‑center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health & safety to maintain standards and consistency.

Initiate and lead engineering audits with on‑site visits, reporting risks and recommending mitigations.

Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.

3+ cumulative years of industrial, municipal or commercial engineering experience, including data centers, power generation or similar sectors.

Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing, constructing, operating or maintaining mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.

Hands‑on experience as resident engineer or design consultant.

Proficiency reading and creating construction drawings, specifications and submittals.

Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in data‑center operations (e.g., feeders, transformers, UPS, cryogenic units).

Experience with data querying languages (SQL), scripting (Python) or statistical software (R, SAS, MATLAB).
