Responsibilities
Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
Prepare lesson plans and support members in achieving their goals.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members, and colleagues.
Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules, referring participants to other programs as appropriate.
Maintain required records (attendance, progress reports).
Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports.
Organize, maintain, and store class equipment, reporting damaged equipment immediately.
Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
Qualifications
YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
Minimum age 16 years.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Physical demands: instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques; lift equipment and small to average‑sized children; bend, squat, and twist in water while teaching.
Communicate positively and respectfully with youth and parents.
Instructors teach sessions ranging from 30 min to 3 hours in the water.
