Role Overview We seek compassionate, skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters (1099 Contractors) to support equitable communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in medical, legal, educational, and other contexts. This contract role is based in Minneapolis, MN and other locations nationwide for local assignments.
Responsibilities
Provide accurate and efficient interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa in onsite settings.
Facilitate communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals in meetings, conferences, and other events.
Cover on-demand and scheduled interpreting sessions while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of ASL protocols, regulations, and standards of practice.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics as outlined by RID and NAD.
Collaborate with clients and teams to ensure communication preferences and access needs are honored.
Minimum Qualifications
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and Spoken English.
Experience in interpretation services in a variety of settings (in-person, remote, group, one-on-one).
Familiarity with Deaf culture, communication norms, and intersectional identities.
Ability to work independently and effectively in an on‑site environment.
Relevant certification such as RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) or NIC (National Interpreter Certification) is a plus.
A minimum of two years of experience in ASL interpreting.
Preferred Credentials
RID certification or equivalent credential.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and cultural humility.
Respect for ADA guidelines and inclusive communication practices.

Step 3 - Vendor Enrollment and Onboarding: Upon successful screening, the HR team will send an offer contract and additional documents to complete your supplier/vendor/IC 1099 contractor file via Adobe Sign. After enrollment, final onboarding links for micro learnings, assignment acceptance, status updates, invoicing, and payments are provided.
