Job Description
As a Field Service Technician for Bourn and Koch, your job responsibilities will be focused on learning the BK products and controls used on our equipment. Your primary role will be in the field, supporting BK products and aftermarket services, including, but not limited to, repair jobs, machine evaluations, preventive maintenance work, troubleshooting, and returning machines to production. In addition to these service-related tasks and responsibilities, you will provide feedback to Bourn and Koch on process improvements and voice of the customer activities to help strengthen Bourn and Koch's continuous improvement efforts and enhance our team's ability to meet customer needs.
Essential Functions
Should have a good understanding of both electrical and mechanical practices as applied to machine tools
Mechanical components; linear bearings/rails, servo driven spindles, gearboxes, machine alignments, magnetic chucks/tables, chip conveyors, etc.
Electrical components; servo motors, variable frequency drives, machine control panels, digital and hardwired inputs/outputs, motor starters, CNC controls, etc.
Familiarity with CNC machine tools; hobbing, shaping, grinding, milling, turning, etc.
Providing Service and customer support during field visits or dispatches
Managing all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks
Diagnosing error or technical problems and determining proper solutions
90% Travel
Quoting hours and materials to complete repairs
Job Duties
Provide service and customer support during field visits or dispatches
Tie workflow to schedule
Manage all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks
Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions
Produce timely and detailed service reports
Operate vehicle in a safe manner and use field automation systems
Follow all company field procedures and protocols
Cooperate with technical team and share information across the organization
Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations/briefings
Build positive relationships with customers
Shares in achieving company goals.
Ensures Bourn & Koch quality standards are being met in area of responsibility.
Uses electrical knowledge to troubleshoot any wiring errors on machine.
Uses mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot/diagnose problems on the machine.
Assists in setting all machine switches for proper operation. (Limit, float, pressure, etc.)
When not assigned on field service assignments, we expect to utilize time making sales calls for future repair business, technician support calls, or possibly come into Bourn & Koch to work on an in-house project – if applicable.
Understanding of both electrical and mechanical practices as applied to machine tools.
Communication Proficiency – proficient with verbal and written communication.

Technical Capacity – ability to read blueprints

Excel, Word, & Windows Mechanical Aptitude.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment The work environment is an industrial setting. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Physical Demands The technician could be standing for periods of up to 4 hours or more without breaks and/or moving around on the machine and able to lift 50 pounds or more to shoulder height.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are approximately Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Travel 85% of the time.
Required Education and Experience High school diploma or GED / 10 years’ experience in a service-related job role. CNC controls experience a must.
Preferred Education and Experience Trade school or Machine and/or CNC schooling.
