The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, may perform waived and non-waived testing. Under general supervision, carries out all policies and performs all tests in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures. Works independently to assure accurate results and records. The role requires professional knowledge to read and interpret test results used by providers in diagnosis and treatment. As General Supervisor under CLIA, may be delegated day-to-day supervision or oversight of laboratory operations and personnel performing testing and reporting results. Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Supervisors, the MLS II is responsible for supervision of assigned workstations, including Quality Control (QC) review, training, competency assessment of staff, and inventory management. Testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting results. Each individual performs only tests authorized by the laboratory director and requiring a degree of skill commensurate with education, training, or experience, and technical abilities. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures when test systems are not within established performance levels. Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting of results, and correct the problems or notify the supervisor or director as appropriate. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications. Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Sciences; Other Certificate/Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Sciences may be considered. Experience in lieu of a degree is not accepted. Licenses and Credentials

Medical Technologist (ASCP) [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] – ASCP-BOC required. Experience

1-2 years of laboratory experience required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Understanding of laboratory equipment and operation, maintenance, and analytic techniques. Ability to work independently, evaluate situations, and act appropriately. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail and adherence to written protocols, including communication with supervisors when issues are identified. Ability to work as a team member. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact professionally with physicians, hospital personnel, employees, and patients. Basic knowledge of federal, state, and accreditation requirements. Additional Job Details
