Job Overview
Position: Surgical Technician (Surgical Tech) at Pinnacle Orthopaedics Surgery Center – Woodstock.
Job Summary: To scrub and assist the surgeon on all operative cases. Must have special knowledge of individualized cases and physician’s preferences with the aid of a preference card.
Responsibilities
Assist in preparing the operative suite for surgery, checking supplies, equipment, and instrumentation.
Assist in cleaning the operating room between cases as necessary.
Ensure availability of adequate supplies and instruments for posted cases; assist in opening room in a sterile fashion.
Utilize surgeon preference cards to check with each case and update as needed.
Assist the surgeon during a surgical procedure with a high degree of efficiency, meeting physician and patient needs.
Recognize the need and obtain assistance for the initiation of emergency measures.
Assist in draping to provide a sterile field and observance of sterile technique.
Maintain surgical asepsis in handling instruments, sponges, sutures, drains, needles, and dressings.
Assist in moving the patient to stretcher after case and maintain a clean and orderly environment within the operative suite.
Assist the circulating nurse with specimen identification and receipt.
Restock assigned room at the end of each day and assist in completing monthly work assignment sheet.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology or equivalent 2 years experience.
Current CPR certification.
Experience with progressive leadership, administrative, and clinical competencies preferably with a minimum of two years in the operating room; management experience desirable.
Current certification in BCLA or ability to achieve certification within 60 days of employment.
Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Must frequently move upper extremities within full range of motion, stoop, bend at 90 degrees, and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment Noise level is usually moderate. Exposure risk to bloodborne pathogens is great.
Language Skills Good speaking voice quality and tone; speech understandable. Additional language desirable.
Standards of Care Includes providing patient comfort and safety, anticipating special needs and supplies, and maintaining a sterile field.
