Job Summary The University of Utah Health Sciences Division of Vascular Surgery is looking for an Advanced Practice Clinician (NP/PA) who is patient-focused, self-motivated, and capable of working effectively in a team environment. APCs are valued team members who collaborate with physicians and may work independently. The role includes ongoing education with weekly meetings focused on Vascular Surgery, practice standards guided by evidence, and opportunities for project and research involvement. The Vascular Surgery group includes 6 faculty surgeons, 2 fellows, and 9 APCs. APCs provide 24/7 care to patients at the University Hospital and will participate in a rotating coverage schedule including days, nights, and weekend coverage. There is an expectation to become increasingly comfortable with minor procedures and to act as a first assist in the operating room. Occasionally, teaching residents, medical students, and APC students, and participating in team meetings, education conferences, and special projects are expected.
This position is categorized as Category I: Mandatory and requires on-site presence at the work site if healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.
Responsibilities
Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories
Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient condition
Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment
Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess clinical problems and health care needs
Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence
Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy
Complies with medical records policies regarding complete and accurate documentation of patient care; initiates and maintains required records and legal documents
Active participation in developing and implementing quality improvement measures
Counsels patients, families, and significant others about health and illness and promotes health maintenance
Evaluates, plans, implements and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential must be obtained within 30 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or privileging criteria
This position is patient-sensitive and requires immunization according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for medical contraindications or religious objections.
