Under the general supervision of a supervising Psychiatrist, and in collaboration with the Exec. Dir., APCs, the NP/PA evaluates and implements treatment regimens for designated psychiatric patient population. Job Description

Under the general supervision of a supervising Psychiatrist, and in collaboration with the Exec. Dir., APCs, evaluates and implements treatment regimes for designated psychiatric patient population. Take initial history, perform physical assessments, prepare psychosocial evaluation and care plans, including risk management.

Consult with physicians, psychiatrist and other clinical staff members as necessary. Diagnose health and developmental problems.

Provide services to a specific patient population.

Provide advanced practice nursing care to patients with acute or chronic mental health problems, managing therapeutic regimens according to protocols. Identify risk factors and implement appropriate prevention and intervention. Provide psychotherapeutic intervention, including crisis intervention, and health teaching to clients. Identify patient teaching needs and plan the education process. Coordinate referrals and facilitate transfers. Provide psychopharmacologic/intervention services.

Assist in the development of protocols for a specific psychiatric patient population.

Work collaboratively with selected disciplines to develop integrated care plans for the psychiatric patient population throughout the continuum. Act as clinical resource to other nursing staff in the area of specialization. Plan and participate in staff education programs. Provide consultative liaison services.

Be knowledgeable of and utilize appropriate community resources.

Participate in community outreach as appropriate to describe the mental health program. Coordinate the delivery of care with other clinical staff, consulting and collaborating as appropriate. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with providers of psychiatric and mental health services, including South Shore Hospital’s psychiatric staff.

Maintains standards for certification in specialty role and certification. Qualifications

Requires BSN, Masters Degree in psychiatric nursing/related field. Current certification in specialty through American Nurses Association with authorization to practice in the expanded role. License to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the expanded role. Minimum Work Experience: Minimal four (4) to five (5) years of acute psychiatric nursing and crisis evaluation/intervention. ACLS (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH), Certified Nurse Practitioner - Board of Registration in Nursing (Massachusetts) Work Schedule

This role consists of four 10 hour shifts per week, rotating days and evening coverage, with one weekend a month and rotating holidays.
