Job Purpose:

Each member of InterAct’s staff fulfills an important role in furthering InterAct’s mission of providing safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and the entire community, as well as saving lives, rebuilding, lives, and securing safer futures.

Bilingual (Spanish) Crisis Counselor:

delivers effective crisis intervention services to individuals and families who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual violence. Utilization of crisis services may include lethality assessments, supportive counseling, intensive safety planning, coordination of community resources, provision of basic needs, and information/referrals. As a bilingual (Spanish) crisis counselor, you will be expected to perform work in both Spanish and English a manner that consistently upholds InterAct’s core values and commitment to putting clients’ needs first by promoting safety, support, stabilization, and healing from the effects of violence and abuse.

Responsibilities

Provide supportive, trauma‑informed crisis response to individuals impacted by domestic and/or sexual violence through our crisis line and walk‑in services.

Respond to crisis calls and walk‑ins, which may involve translating/facilitating emergency shelter placement, crisis counseling, safety planning, referrals, DV/SA education, lethality assessments, and collaborating with community agencies.

Support Spanish‑speaking clients on InterAct’s Spanish Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence crisis lines.

Collaborate with InterAct’s PEEPs and Survivor Services teams to conduct intakes for, coordinate, and facilitate Spanish domestic violence support groups.

Guide, translate, and transcribe survivors through Domestic Violence Protective Orders.

Provide appropriate resources to help meet the needs of individuals and families in crisis.

Collaborate with InterAct staff, program partners, and community agencies to help plan and/or coordinate comprehensive services that best meet client needs.

Provide court advocacy and hospital and/or Solace Center response/advocacy as needed.

Submit clinical notes within our database (Empower DB) per client interaction and follow guidelines established by the agency, its funding sources, and/or other entities.

Maintain accurate client records within our database (Empower DB) as required by the agency, its funding sources, and/or other entities.

Complete Address Confidentiality Program applications.

Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive work environment conducive to staff, interns, and volunteers while answering calls and assisting people in crisis.

Participate in staff meetings and retreats, in‑service training, and regular supervision.

Maintain strict adherence to state and federal confidentiality regulations.

Complete supervised in‑person initial onboarding training and accumulate 20 hours of training (annually) by seeking out and attending applicable professional development opportunities to maintain and increase knowledge of the field of domestic and sexual violence.

Maintain a high level of professionalism, empathy, and sensitivity to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children as well as work collaboratively with members of the team to create a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment to all clients.

Collaborate and communicate both within and across other programs to ensure communication and continuity of care regarding clients.

Represent the agency and its mission in the community through training, engagement, and partnership development.

Maintain strict adherence to InterAct’s policies, procedures, professional standards of conduct, and codes of ethics and those that govern applicable fields of human service practice.

Other duties as assigned or required for program operation.

Skills/Qualifications

Must be bilingual (Spanish).

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Reliable transportation is required.

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related Human Services field preferred. Master’s degree preferred.

Two (2) years of experience in a crisis intervention setting, preferably with victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, or three (3) years of equivalent experience.

Must be able to work weekend on‑call shifts and holidays, as needed.

Candidates must pass a background check satisfactory to InterAct’s standards and adherence to InterAct’s Communicable Disease Policy.
