Work Location: Hybrid
Work Schedule: 8:30am – 5:30pm Monday-Friday. Occasional weekends and holidays.
Salary: $60,000 – $80,000
Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Work can be performed with or without accommodations.
Travel: 10–20% domestic travel by car and plane.
Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and audit law firm generated prebills (or electronically submitted law firm invoices) for compliance with insurance carriers’ guidelines through the utilization of an electronic billing system.
Conduct line‑by‑line review of invoices to determine accuracy, reasonableness, and compliance with carrier guidelines.
Identify billing discrepancies based on knowledge of carrier guidelines, industry standards, and litigation history.
Educate timekeepers accordingly regarding insurance carriers’ guidelines.
Utilize and create reports to determine timekeeper performance trends.
Identify firm billing trends and elevate to management.
Review invoices flagged for deductions or disputes by clients.
Work closely with attorneys and timekeepers to gather information for appeals, ensuring that all billing entries are substantiated and properly documented.
Collaborate with the billing department to adjust invoices based on appeal outcomes and ensure final bills are accurate.
Billing compliance email triage and prioritization.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a litigation paralegal or equivalent experience, preferably in insurance defense or coverage litigation.
Minimum of 2 years of paralegal (or equivalent) law firm experience, preferably in insurance defense or coverage litigation.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is beneficial.
Experience reviewing, identifying trends, deductions, and auditing, or revising billing entries in the insurance defense industry.
