Engineering Supervisor, Electronics and Firmware
General Atomics (GA) and its affiliated companies are leaders in high‑technology systems development. This role is within GA‑EMS’ Electrical Technologies Instrumentations and Controls team in Rancho Bernardo.
Job Summary This Electrical Engineering (EE) Supervisor leads engineering support and new development of controls systems for high‑power electromagnetic systems, directed energy systems, advanced airborne sensors, space systems and satellites.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead engineering projects, ensuring technical performance meets business, quality, schedule and financial objectives.
Implement current, annual, and long‑term technical, schedule, quality and financial objectives for the engineering unit and assist in setting group objectives.
Participate in design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing and integration.
Interact with engineering teams, suppliers, vendors and customers; serve as primary contact for engineering activities.
Prepare proposals, business plans, work statements, operating budgets and contract terms.
Develop and maintain the required management, professional and technical talent.
Lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule and technical performance.
Identify and resolve engineering issues, including resource reallocation and contract modifications.
Support new and existing business opportunities.
Protect proprietary technology and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Ensure compliance with laws, regulations and company obligations.
Ensure work is conducted safely and per operating procedures.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in engineering or a related field with six or more years of progressively complex engineering experience (or equivalent experience).
Demonstrated engineering principles, project management and leadership skills, including planning, scheduling and coordinating workloads.
Able to resolve management and technical problems.
Extensive experience with LabVIEW or C++.
Solid understanding of object‑oriented software design principles is desirable.
Experience developing firmware and integrating it with sensors, instruments and hardware.
Experience leading a team, including task assignment, feedback and mentoring.
Strong communication, leadership, presentation and interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of staff, customers and government representatives.
Customer‑focused, works independently and in a team on complex, multidisciplinary projects with occasional travel.
