The location for this position is Santa Clara, CA. The Technical Trainer will play a pivotal role in implementing and delivering training to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the incredibly complex Johnson & Johnson OTTAVA Robotic System within the R&D organization. Our ideal candidate is a recent graduate in Instructional Design, Applied AI, Immersive Realty, Education, Electrical, Computer, Software, Systems, or Robotics Engineering that is passionate about teaching and robotics and eager to grow in a healthcare-focused, innovative environment. The role lies at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, and technical training. The individual will train and observe engineers, key opinion leaders, and support staff interacting with the OTTAVA System, provide individual contributions and organizational management of the team's responsibilities, operate the system during training labs, troubleshoot and resolve known issues, document novel issues that arise during system use, perform software installation, and provide feedback to R&D. Applicants should have experience working with complex electromechanical systems but need not have a technical background in robotics. Core Job Responsibilities
Design content & train the team in implementing the framework and processes to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the systems. Serve as the technical training expert for setting up, operating, maintaining, and debugging the system. Assess training needs and certification requirements. Document issues that arise in training labs, and resolve by working across hardware, electrical, and software teams. Develop training content on troubleshooting and repair issues that commonly arise on the system. Work with engineers to stay up to date on software and hardware updates. Collaborate with mechanical or electrical engineers to train the team on hardware components. Maintain the configuration and records of all systems used for training. Manage and maintain service training facilities, equipment, and supplies. Host train-the-trainer sessions with internal subject matter experts. Qualifications
Required
Minimum of a B.S. degree in Instructional Design, Applied AI, Immersive Realty, Education, Electrical, Computer, Software, Systems, or Robotics Engineering, or other applicable degree. Fundamental understanding across software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Depth in one or more of the above subject areas, with ability to quickly come up to speed in new technical areas. Experience partitioning and decomposing sophisticated engineering problems into solvable problems. Understanding of engineering concepts such as system architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance. Knowledge and experience using SOLIDWORKS Simulation. Excellent self-starter with a can‑do demeanor. Outstanding communication skills with the ability to explain technical terms using simple language. Preferred
Hands‑on experience with electromechanical or robotic systems. Experience in creating and developing augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) content. Experience in developing technical course content using web‑based learning platforms, modern training techniques and tools. Knowledge of instructional design to implement and complete full training cycles (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate). Knowledge of project management and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, Agile tools, MS Office, SharePoint, etc.). Understanding and application of Good Distribution Practice (GDP) principles. Medical device, healthcare, and/or robotics experience. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills to evaluate trainee experience levels, identify and address training gaps, develop logically sequenced training materials, and deliver effective training programs that enhance overall learning outcomes. Ability to collaborate on training content within a cross‑functional array of service, mechanical, electrical, system, and software engineers. Travel
Up to 20% travel in the United States. Compensation
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $73,000.00 to $117,300.00. Benefits
Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year. Sick time – up to 40 hours per calendar year. Holiday pay, including floating holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year. Work, personal and family time – up to 40 hours per calendar year. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (401(k)).
