Sr. Full Stack Software Engineer, Constellation Tools (Starlink)
SpaceX was founded on the belief that a future where humanity explores the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX actively develops the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
At SpaceX, we leverage our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation, providing fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system—thousands of satellites, consumer receivers, and the software that brings it all together. We’re looking for best‑in‑class engineers to help maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the globe.
The Constellation Tools team is responsible for safe, secure, and efficient operations for all Starlink vehicles and ground assets. In addition, we oversee pipelines that process gigabytes of telemetry every second, ensuring that relevant engineers are notified when anomalies occur. All our tools have high availability and reliability requirements, as they are used to maintain satellite safety and maximize network performance 24/7/365. Engineers on the team are directly responsible for delivering the best operator experience for managing thousands of mission‑critical assets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop well‑architected, highly reliable, and available web applications and data pipelines used to command, control, and monitor the fleet of assets.
Build front‑end applications: deliver well‑tested, easy‑to‑use, and maintainable JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS code.
Build back‑end services: deliver well‑tested, performant, and maintainable Python, C#/.NET, and Java code.
Focus on continuous monitoring and alerting to drive data‑driven business decisions and improve the quality and observability of our systems.
Assist in operating satellites, gateways, and other assets to improve time‑to‑insight, time‑to‑issue‑resolution, and create a more efficient and clear operation system.
Automate manual operations with a focus on operator user experience and safety of the Starlink network.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a STEM discipline and 5+ years of experience building full‑stack software; OR 7+ years of professional experience building full‑stack software in lieu of a degree (internship experience is applicable).
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Programming experience in Python, C#, .NET, Go, Scala, Java, or a similar object‑oriented language.
Front‑end experience in Angular, React, or a similar JavaScript framework.
Experience with PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, or similar relational database technologies.
Experience with in‑stream data processing technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Flink, or Spark Streaming.
Production experience with infrastructure tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery systems.
Experience with Unix‑like operating systems.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Pay range: Software Engineer/Senior: $160,000 – $220,000 per year. Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related knowledge and skills.
