VES LLC
VES, LLC is seeking a highly capable Principal Model-Based Systems Engineer to own the system architecture and the digital thread for multiple projects and programs. You will lead the development of an authoritative SysML model that ties together requirements, behaviors, interfaces, simulations, and verification across the lifecycle. You will mentor a cross‑functional team and drive model‑based reviews through the acquisition lifecycle and establish company‑wide policies that support a holistic system engineering process for any program, product, or project. This role is fully remote, with approximately 10% travel.
About VES, LLC We are a small business headquartered out of Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Since 2014, we have grown to approximately 80 employees, many expanding into other regions of the United States. Our core competencies include the development of custom government off‑the‑shelf (GOTS) infrastructure solutions, integration of mission command systems, and prototyping emerging technologies for the Army tactical architecture. We are an engineering‑driven company focused on solving the DoD’s toughest software systems integration challenges.
Many software government contractors only hire to fill a slot and then release the person when the contract ends. We truly strive to be a close‑knit group, hiring people for their talent and ensuring they want to stay for the long haul. We offer highly competitive pay, generous benefits, and a friendly work culture.
General Job Duties Architecture & Modeling
Lead creation of CONOPS and mission threads; perform functional decomposition and allocation using SysML (use case, activity, sequence, state, parametric).
Establish and maintain the authoritative system model in Cameo Systems Modeler/MagicDraw (or IBM Rhapsody), using UAF/UPDM/DoDAF viewpoints.
Define and manage interfaces (ICDs), data models, and N² diagrams; own interface control and change governance.
Run trade studies using parametrics and cosimulation (e.g., ModelCenter, FMI/FMU, MATLAB/Simulink).
Digital Thread & Toolchain
Implement end‑to‑end traceability across requirements ↔ model ↔ simulation ↔ test (e.g., DOORS/Jama to Cameo; OpenMBEE/DocGen for document generation).
Stand up model configuration management and collaboration (Teamwork Cloud/Git), style guides, profiles/stereotypes, and modeling conventions.
Integrate with PLM/ALM/CI pipelines to enable model reviews, checks, metrics, and automated publishing.
Define, organize, and track system engineering tasks using the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
Verification, Validation & Reviews
Plan and execute MBSE‑driven V&V; link test cases and results back to requirements and model elements.
Lead SRR/SFR/PDR/CDR model‑based reviews; generate stakeholder‑specific views and evidence packages.
Perform safety/reliability analyses (FTA/FMEA/STPA as applicable) and connect them to the system model.
Leadership & Collaboration
Define and establish necessary System Engineering processes for future efforts and guide ongoing efforts into compliance.
Serve as technical authority for MBSE; coach engineers and suppliers, and drive adoption and training.
Partner with system/software/hardware leads to converge on balanced, testable architectures.
Contribute to proposals (SOW/WBS/BOEs) and customer briefings.
Required Skills
Proven leadership delivering complex, multidisciplinary systems through the acquisition lifecycle.
Strong experience in requirements engineering (DOORS NG/Jama), interface management, and traceability.
Experience with one or more frameworks/standards: INCOSE SE Handbook, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, UAF/DoDAF/UPDM.
Excellent communication; able to distill complex models into stakeholder‑friendly views.
Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain; U.S. citizenship required for clearance eligibility.
Desired Skills
Experience leading MBSE adoption at program or enterprise scale; model governance and metrics.
Cameo Teamwork Cloud administration; custom profiles, DSLs, and automation (Java/Kotlin/Groovy, OpenAPI).
Cosimulation & analysis: ModelCenter, MATLAB/Simulink, FMI/FMU, Cameo Simulation Toolkit.
SysML v2 awareness; OpenMBEE/VE/DocGen publishing pipelines.
DevSecOps for models (GitLab/GitHub CI, containers); PLM/ALM integrations (Teamcenter/Windchill/Jira/Confluence).
Experience with Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
Required Education and Experience
BS in Systems/Aerospace/Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering or related; 12+ years relevant experience (or MS + 10, PhD + 8).
5+ years hands‑on MBSE with SysML 1.x and a major tool (Cameo/MagicDraw preferred; Rhapsody acceptable).
Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with respect to all the above requirements.
Benefits
401(k) match
Highly Competitive Salary
Up to 15 Paid Vacation days / year
11 Paid Holidays
Flexible work/life balance culture
