Under direction and in consultation with the Principal Investigator, perform a variety of experimental procedures for ongoing laboratory research projects to study bacterial pathogenesis, host responses to infection, and the human microbiome. Develop and apply cutting-edge quantitative proteomics and metabolomics tools to track thousands of protein dynamics for over 1300 clinical stool samples. Interface microbiology techniques to characterize important factors identified using proteomics. Synthesize a chimeric protein to develop a vaccine against Group A Strep (GAS) based on previous proteomics data. Utilize in vitro and in vivo techniques including microbiology, cloning, protein expression, mass spectrometry procedures, in vivo murine studies testing vaccine candidates and maintaining all data analysis using the associated software. Independently investigate techniques that may not be standard for the lab, adapt them for use in the lab, write protocols, and lead and train other staff personnel and students in their use. Independently recognize problems and identify solutions, contribute original ideas, analyze data and present findings in meetings and in written reports. Contribute to laboratory manuscripts for publication and grant applications and assist the PI with laboratory management including EH&S compliance, maintenance of key laboratory equipment, and ordering supplies. Minimum Qualifications

Extensive theoretical knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, cloning, and computer science as typically attained by a Bachelor's degree, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven ability to contribute to original project development ideas, experimental design and strategies, and their implementation into a variety of research projects. Demonstrated knowledge of microbiology techniques and procedures related to working with various chemicals including acids and bacteria, especially pathogenic strains, including liquid-liquid extractions, culturing, and genetic manipulation; ability to prepare and maintain media buffers and perform molar calculations. Skilled in the operation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment including centrifuges, pH meters, spectrophotometers, balances, computers, etc. Knowledge of qPCR thermocycler instrumentation, operation, and maintenance for Eppendorf RealPlex 4. Advanced knowledge of mass spectrometry instrumentation, operation, and maintenance for Dionex Ultimate 3000 HPLC; advanced knowledge in the application of software including Ardia, Proteome Discoverer, and Cytoscape. Advanced knowledge in the application of software including Chromeleon, Xcalibur, Proteome Discoverer, and Cytoscape. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a diverse population with diplomacy, judgment, tact and flexibility. Demonstrated ability to document complex research procedures, record experimental details, perform data analysis, prepare graphs and figures, and write reports. Ability to utilize multiple computer programs for performance of scientific equipment data recording, data analyses, statistical evaluation, graphical presentation, and writing. Ability to work independently, take ownership of work, and manage time with strong organizational and multitasking skills, including prioritization and meeting changing deadlines under pressure. Ability to troubleshoot and modify procedures and protocols to meet research needs and to analyze and interpret results. Ability to direct, advise, and train other lab personnel on procedures, methods, data analysis, safety issues, and related concepts. Ability to prepare, interpret and present results for specific research goals and for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Knowledge of EH&S compliance and Injury and Illness Prevention Program, laboratory safety precautions, and proper handling of chemicals and biohazardous materials. Special Conditions

Annual Full Pay Range: $76,695 - $123,435 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $36.73 - $59.12 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
