CNA’s Long Term Care (LTC) business unit is not your typical slow moving insurance company; we operate with a start‑up mindset, backed by the resources of a large company, and have a team of over 50 across multiple disciplines. With approximately $14 billion in reserves serving 300 k policyholders, CNA’s LTC business is a strategic priority.

Job Description

Lead and execute data science projects that address complex business problems in the Long Term Care (LTC) insurance and life sciences domains.

Develop and implement predictive, prescriptive, and simulation models using advanced statistical, mathematical, and machine learning techniques.

Apply probability theory, statistical inference, and optimization methods to support strategic decision‑making and risk assessment.

Define project scope, methodology, and execution plans—from ideation to deployment and post‑implementation review.

Lead and execute projects both independently and in collaboration with internal teams and external consultants.

Transform raw, complex datasets into actionable insights that drive business value and operational efficiency.

Use data storytelling to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Partner with actuarial, claims, product, and IT teams to align analytics initiatives with business goals.

Design and develop interactive dashboards, scorecards, and reports using Power BI, Tableau, Excel, or other tools.

Track and visualize key metrics to support business reviews, forecasting, and performance management.

Stay current with emerging tools, technologies, and methodologies in data science, AI, and insurance analytics.

Mentor junior data scientists and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

Reporting Relationship Reports to: Director or above.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Deep understanding of insurance operations, especially in Long Term Care or related health/life insurance domains.

Strong foundation in mathematics, probability theory, statistics, and econometrics.

Proficiency in Excel, Python, R, and/or MATLAB for statistical computing and modeling.

Experience with SQL and working with large, complex datasets.

Working knowledge in machine learning, time series forecasting, survival analysis, and/or Bayesian methods.

Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver results in a fast‑paced environment.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and version control (Git) is a plus.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

5–8 years of relevant experience in data science, or analytics roles.

Insurance industry experience highly preferred specifically within the Long‑Term Care, Life or Health insurance space.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
