Master Of Towing – Tractor Tugs Job Summary The Master of Towing for Tractor Tugs is responsible for the safe and efficient navigation, operation, and management of tractor tug vessels during towing, ship‑assist, and harbor maneuvering operations. This role ensures compliance with maritime regulations, oversees vessel crew performance, and coordinates towing operations to support port, offshore, or harbor activities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in tug operations, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of maritime safety and towing procedures.
Master Of Towing – Tractor Tugs Responsibilities
Command and navigate tractor tug vessels in all towing, ship‑assist, and harbor operations.
Plan and execute towing operations safely and efficiently, considering environmental conditions, vessel size, and operational risks.
Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international maritime laws, regulations, and company policies.
Supervise, train, and manage vessel crew members, maintaining high standards of safety and operational readiness.
Inspect vessel machinery, towing equipment, and safety gear before and during operations to ensure proper functionality.
Communicate with port authorities, pilots, and vessel operators to coordinate operations.
Maintain accurate records of voyage logs, towing assignments, incidents, and maintenance activities.
Conduct risk assessments and implement safety procedures to mitigate operational hazards.
Respond to emergency situations, including towing failures, collisions, or environmental hazards.
Master Of Towing – Tractor Tugs Position Requirements
Valid Master Mariner license or equivalent certification for towing vessels.
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in tug operations, with proven experience commanding tractor tugs.
In-depth knowledge of towing procedures, maneuvering techniques, and maritime safety regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills.
Ability to work under pressure in challenging weather and operational conditions.
Familiarity with maritime navigation systems, vessel engines, and towing equipment.
Physical fitness to perform operational and emergency duties on board.
Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and extended periods at sea.
