Responsibilities

Formulate a plan of care for patients with complicated medical problems in collaboration with patient and family, through observation of the patient’s physical condition and behavior and interpretation of information obtained from the patient and others.

Perform skills essential to nursing action to be taken, explain the health treatment to the patient and family, and teach the patient and family how to care for the client’s health needs.

Delegate tasks to health team members based on their legal scope of practice and capabilities, follow up with health care team members and provide effective clinical guidance of patient care being given. Perform the duties of charge nurse as assigned.

Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care through observation of the patient’s physical condition and behavior, signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment and through communication with the patient and health care team members, and modify the plan as needed.

Act as the patient’s advocate, by initiating the procedure to improve health care or to change decisions or activities which are against the interests or wishes of the patient, and by giving the patient and family the opportunity to make informed decisions about health care before it is provided.

Qualifications

Current California Nursing License.

PALS certification required.

BCLS certification required.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

One (1) year of full‑time equivalent or more of acute care experience as a Registered Nurse.
