Base Pay Range: $146,600.00 – $215,300.00 per year

Location: 2000 16th Street, Denver, Colorado, 80202, United States or Corporate Business Office, El Segundo, California.

The primary work location may be either Denver, CO or El Segundo, CA, with travel of up to 25% required.

Overview DaVita Kidney Care’s legal department is a strategic partner to the company’s various business units.

The Assistant General Counsel (Labor Law) will provide seasoned legal counsel on all labor‑related matters, manage external counsel on unfair labor practice and NLRB matters, and train senior management on labor compliance and workforce issues.

The role supports DaVita’s mission to be the partner and employer of choice while ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations across multiple states.

Duties And Responsibilities

Provide guidance to the Company, Senior Executives, and the Labor Relations team on labor issues, union campaigns, and matters before state agencies and the NLRB.

Manage outside counsel on unfair labor practice proceedings, focusing on cost efficiency.

Conduct management training on labor relations and federal/California workplace issues.

Advise senior management and business units on labor compliance and risk management to achieve business objectives without undue risk.

Keep senior management abreast of significant NLRB decisions, legislation, and rulings that impact the Company.

Develop a deep understanding of DaVita’s business, customers, and competitors to identify trends and formulate strategies.

Establish rapport across all levels to encourage proactive use of in‑house counsel.

Perform special assignments or projects as required.

Travel up to 25% depending on location.

Qualifications and Characteristics

J.D. degree with minimum 10 years of legal experience, of which 7–10 years are in traditional labor practice.

Legal and practical experience with healthcare clients and unions (e.g., SEIU‑UHW, NNU) is a plus.

Active State Bar admission and good standing.

Law‑firm experience required; additional in‑house experience is a plus.
