The mission of the VCU Division of Surgical Oncology is to provide the Mid‑Atlantic’s most advanced, patient‑oriented, cost‑effective and safe Surgical Oncology Services, and to create the finest training environment for future Surgical Oncology Specialists. The Division is committed to enhancing diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.
Chief Purpose Of This Position This open‑rank, early‑to‑mid‑career, non‑tenure track faculty position is open in the VCU Surgical Oncology Division. The faculty member should have clinical and research interests that complement and expand on existing expertise in the Division. Clinical and research areas of particular interest should be in the treatment of benign and malignant breast diseases. The faculty member should also support the Division’s expanding efforts to provide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs, including Massey Cancer Center, and to support the Division’s commitment to teaching Surgery Residents, Fellows, and VCU Medical Students.
Responsibilities
Teaching:
Provide teaching in Surgical Oncology with an emphasis on Breast Surgery.
Research:
Participate in clinical or basic science research relevant to the expanding field of Surgical Oncology. Preference for research in cancer disparities, translational oncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics. Expected to have a record of publication in refereed journals or presentations at national meetings and to develop interdisciplinary collaborations within VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, Medical Oncology, and Radiation Oncology.
Service:
Serve on University, health‑system, and departmental committees as requested. Assist with recruitment, training, and placement of Residents and Fellows.
Clinical:
Provide care to oncology surgical patients on the MCV campus of VCU and at community outreach satellite locations. Develop an active surgical practice with support of the Division and Department leadership.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery.
Advanced training fellowship in Surgical Oncology or Breast Surgery.
Commitment to outcomes, clinical and/or basic science research.
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Record of external funding or proposal submissions to obtain funding.
