Chairperson of the Department of Family Medicine .
This leadership opportunity arises as our previous Chair,
Dr. Christine Alexander , now serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of MetroHealth.

About the Department of Family Medicine MetroHealth’s
Department of Family Medicine
is a cornerstone of our commitment to
community-based, comprehensive care . With a dedicated team of
70–75 clinicians , including
55 board-certified physicians
and
20 advanced practice providers (APPs) , the department delivers high-quality, accessible care across
15–20 clinical sites
across Cuyahoga County, including Broadway, Ohio City, Brunswick, Brecksville, Brooklyn, West Park, Beachwood, Crocker Park, Parma, Middleburg Heights, Buckeye, Bedford, Glenville, Cleveland Heights, the Old Brooklyn Campus (OBC), and Cleveland State University (CSU). The faculty includes an exceptional mix of early-, mid-, and senior-career physicians.
The department supports a
highly regarded Family Medicine Residency Program
(established in 1974), now expanded to nine residents per year (27 total). MetroHealth is the primary academic affiliate of Case Western Reserve University, and hosts learners from Ohio University and NEOMED. Our department is also deeply involved in medical student education with core clerkships, and faculty development.

Street Medicine Program with mobile FQHC-look-alike unit and camp outreach

Addiction Medicine, including specialized care for pregnant patients through the MOMS Clinic
Correctional Medicine, including maternity care and Centering Pregnancy
Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
Lactation Support Clinics
Integrated Behavioral Health, including care of complex behavioral health disorders
Clinical Pharmacy Services embedded in continuity clinics

Position Overview The Chair of Family Medicine will be a strategic, collaborative, and inspirational leader responsible for advancing clinical care, education, community outreach, and research.
Key Responsibilities
Provide visionary leadership to faculty, residents, and advanced practice providers across the department.
Align departmental goals with the mission of MetroHealth.
Foster a culture of excellence and academic achievement.
Champion initiatives to improve access, reduce disparities, and address social determinants of health.
Lead recruitment, retention, mentorship, and faculty development efforts.
Guide innovation in primary care quality and delivery.
This role will also be instrumental in shaping the department's future in the context of evolving healthcare trends and MetroHealth’s ongoing transformation into a national model for community-focused academic medicine.
Qualifications
Board Certification in Family Medicine (required)
Academic rank of Assistant Professor or higher
3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic or large healthcare setting
Experience with graduate medical education, quality improvement, and community-based clinical research
A demonstrated commitment to fostering belonging and supporting individuals across a broad range of experiences and perspectives
Academic appointment will be through Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, with rank and salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
