Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must meet specific VHA policy requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts and eligibility periods are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

United States citizenship or eligible non‑citizens when qualified citizens are unavailable.

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a VA‑approved school.

Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

Completed residency in an accredited core specialty training program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (ACGME, AOA, or an equivalent internationally accredited program with five years of verified U.S. practice).

Residents approved by the ACGME/AOA and otherwise meeting the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis, provided they hold a full license.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred: 2 years of clinical experience in Movement Disorders, including a 1‑2 year movement‑disorder fellowship (reference:

VA Qualification Standards ).

Physical requirement: Light carrying under 15 pounds, use of fingers, walking, and standing for one hour each.

Preferred Experience/Skills

Experience managing patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.

Skill in diagnostic testing (e.g., EMG, imaging) and therapeutic modalities such as deep brain stimulation.

Faculty or supervisory experience with medical students, residents, or fellows.

Academic affiliation opportunity with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) subject to qualifications and experience.

Duties

Provide comprehensive neurologic care to patients with movement disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including telehealth modalities.

Serve as the admitting and consult service leader for neurology inpatient and outpatient clinics, supervising fellows, residents, and medical students.

Conduct thorough neurological evaluations—history, physical examination, diagnostic testing—and develop individualized treatment plans.

Order and interpret laboratories, imaging, and therapeutic procedures; manage medication regimens and device programming such as deep brain stimulation.

Offer counseling and education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment, and disease management.

Provide specialty consults to primary care and other specialty providers across VISN 20 and the PADRECC network.

Teach and supervise medical students, residents, and fellows in movement‑disorder clinic settings and other educational areas.

Participate in academic activities, including bedside teaching, clinic instruction, procedural training, and didactic sessions.

Contribute to administrative and quality improvement initiatives through service on committees, task forces, and projects.

Maintain compliance with VA computer security and access requirements.

Adhere to scheduled work hours Monday through Friday (7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) with potential on‑call responsibilities as part of the neurology service rotation.
