– Department of Social Work invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a 9-month appointment with potential for summer teaching or grant-supported summer salary. Anticipated start date is Fall 2026. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels, establishing a strong research portfolio, and service to the department, college, university, and profession. UTEP is on the U.S.-Mexico border with Juárez as a sister city. This bi-national and bi-cultural context informs our social work education and commitment to culturally competent practice serving the border region and beyond. The department offers a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), a Master of Social Work (MSW), and an Online MSW. The position represents an opportunity to advance a research program including external funding, with a focus on substance use, disorders, mental health, immigrant studies, and community-based research. We welcome candidates with teaching, practice, and research experience with underserved individuals, families, and communities. Tenured/Tenure Track faculty participate in the college’s PhD in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences. Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels. • Establish and advance a robust research portfolio and pursue external funding. • Engage in service to the department, college, university, and the social work profession. • Contribute to interdisciplinary and border region initiatives in line with program and department missions. Required qualifications

PhD in Social Work, DSW, or an earned doctorate in a closely related field (all-but-dissertation candidates who are close to completion by May 2026 will be considered). MSW from a CSWE-accredited program. A minimum of two years of post-MSW practice experience. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in substance use disorders, mental health, and immigrant studies. Record of scholarship or potential for funded research and teaching effectiveness. Experience working with populations reflective of the region. LMSW or LCSW licensure or eligibility; and Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders. Preferred qualifications

Experience at a Hispanic Serving Institution. Knowledge of CSWE accreditation guidelines. Bilingual English/Spanish abilities. Experience with graduate and doctoral education. Commitment to community and globally engaged scholarship. Department and College context

The Department of Social Work has offered education for over four decades. BSW and MSW programs are accredited by CSWE. The MSW program focuses on Social Work in the Border Region. The college emphasizes interprofessional education and interdisciplinary collaboration, with active research and community engagement.
