Base pay range $250,000.00/yr - $315,000.00/yr

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the course of study was completed.

Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.

Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, leading to eligibility for board certification.

Residency options: ACGME‑approved, AOA‑approved, or other qualifying residency followed by a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice.

Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.

PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged.

PRPs have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.

Preference for 2‑3 years of specialty experience and board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical requirements: Participation in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation will be required.

Duties

Advocate for a Whole Health System of care across the VA Midwest Health Care Network.

Provide comprehensive care, including diagnosis, treatment, and education of patients with neurologic disorders.

Evaluate, triage, and prioritize consult requests to ensure timely care for patients suspected of having disorders of the nervous system.

Coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other medical personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system.

Perform, supervise, and interpret results of procedures related to neurologic disorders such as lumbar punctures, EMGs, and EEGs.

Lead the Code Stroke team in accordance with the facility stroke protocol.

Perform administrative tasks as assigned – such as peer reviews, Compensation and Pension evaluations, and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE).

Provide on‑call services as needed for after‑hours and weekend support.

Provide clinical supervision and support to Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners working in the neurology clinic.

Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, teams, workgroups, and peer reviews as requested.

Complete CME, VA Training, HIPAA, Security training, and other mandatory trainings.
