Seasonal Day Camp – Camp Timber Ridge – Mableton, GA
Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is seeking a Unit Leader to mentor Girl Scouts during the summer at one of three camps (Camp Meriwether, Camp Misty Mountain, Camp Timber Ridge). The role includes planning, supervising, and leading daily activities such as hiking, archery, swim, horseback riding, and STEAM programs. Unit Leaders receive training with a Leaderboard and may earn certifications including First Aid/CPR, USA Archery Level 1 Counselor, Lifeguard, and more.
Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in supervisor training prior to camp.
Plan, conduct staff training and orientation with the Leadership Team.
Supervise and evaluate counselors assigned to your unit.
Manage all campers and counselors in your unit, including morning routines, hygiene, and cabin chores.
Lead and create engaging evening programs for the entire camp each night.
Serve as a role model for campers and staff in words, deeds and actions.
Support counselors by providing guidance and correct, constructive feedback.
Communicate plans, problems, and concerns to supervisors.
Assist with opening and closing of camp as directed.
Support other areas of camp to ensure quality programming and smooth operation of camp logistics.
Attend all staff meetings on time.
Travel among all GSGATL camps as needed.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to evaluate performance and give feedback.
Experience working with children.
Problem‑solving and decision‑making maturity.
Stamina to live in a rough, uneven terrain setting.
Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Quick decision making and wise action in emergencies.
Sense of adventure and enthusiasm to motivate and coach campers and staff.
Minimum age 21 with at least 2 years of camp counseling experience preferred.
Must pass a criminal and sex‑offender background check and have a clean MVC record.
