Project Engineer I, Highways
Apply to join RK&K as an entry‑level Project Engineer in Baltimore, MD. You will be part of a multimodal Transportation Design team focused on highway projects primarily throughout Delaware, developing creative, safe, and community‑centric transportation solutions.
Essential Functions
Perform a wide variety of engineering tasks for new roadways, roadway widening, streetscapes, complete streets, trails, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, transit, intersections, interchanges, and roundabouts.
Develop concepts, studies, contract plans, cost estimates, and specifications.
Collaborate and lead a project team to deliver cost‑effective design recommendations that improve safety, multimodal travel, and community needs.
Apply applicable federal, state, and local guidelines and standards.
Lead design projects to deliver high‑quality deliverables within budget and on schedule.
Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, community representatives, and government agencies.
Required Skills and Experience
4–7 years of experience in transportation/highway engineering.
BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
Proficiency in MicroStation V8i, GEOPAK/OpenRoads, InRoads, and/or AutoCAD Civil3D.
Professional Engineering Registration (PE) or ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Skills and Experience
In‑depth understanding of transportation planning reports, contract documents, Highway Design Standards, and DelDOT, AASHTO, and other local highway design manuals.
Proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
Capability to lead transportation design projects in a dynamic, fast‑paced team‑oriented environment.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
