The salary range for this position is $60.00 - $79.67 per hour. Placement within the range is based on relevant work experience and internal equity. Union positions follow the collective bargaining agreement.

Description Northwestern Medicine offers an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant in the inpatient Transplant Surgery department. The APP will manage patients on the transplant surgery floor, including liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant after surgery and readmissions for medical issues.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4×10 hours per day, with a day off TBD. Every 5th weekend and rotating holidays will be required. No on‑call.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care, including diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
Responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population.
Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise.
Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families, and staff.
Mentors graduate students in advanced practice and patient care.
Participates in quality improvement and research relevant to the area of expertise.
Responsibilities
Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations.
Provides direct clinical care to patients.
Prescribes and orders medications, therapies, and laboratory tests; interprets clinical results.
Evaluates patients to determine need for further health care.
Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
Documents all care and education in the medical record.
Refers to other disciplines as appropriate.
Consults with other disciplines in areas of expertise.
Integrates research‑based knowledge into clinical decision making.
Exemplifies a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation.
Advocates for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
Maintains certifications and continuing education required for licensure and privileging.
Serves as a patient advocate and role model for "Patients First".
Participates in unit, department, or hospital committees and task forces.
Develops and participates in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
Provides formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to area of specialty.
Participates in quality improvement and research initiatives for the specific patient population.
Qualifications Required
Master’s degree from an accredited nursing school or a physician assistant program.
Acute‑care certification required for APRNs; inpatient experience considered if nursing was acute‑care certified.
Current license as a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois, or current license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois.
Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred
Two years of clinical experience in the area of specialty.
