Summary James A. Haley VA Medical Center’s Diagnostic Imaging Service seeks an experienced and dynamic Physician (Radiology/Diagnostic). Ideal applicants contribute to quality care standards and the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship. Non‑citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited according to VA policy.

Education: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

License and Registration: Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

Residency Training: Completed an ACGME or AOA accredited core specialty training program in Diagnostic Radiology leading to board‑certification eligibility.

Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiology.

English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).

Preferred Experience: Fellowship training in Breast Imaging with at least 3 years of practice interpreting mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast MRI, and performing imaging‑guided breast biopsies.

Outstanding communication skills.

Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination and meet specified lifting, reaching, and vision standards.

Duties

Protocol and interpret breast imaging studies including mammograms, breast ultrasounds, and breast MRIs.

Read reports and record results for review by physicians.

Perform breast procedures such as stereotactic, ultrasound‑guided, and MRI‑guided biopsies and localization.

Recommend and discuss treatment options with breast surgeons and primary care teams.

Ensure best image quality by working closely with technologists.

Involve in teaching U.SF residents with academic appointments.

Adhere to work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (may include shifts as needed).
