Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers, is seeking an in-house counsel to advise its senior management team and ensure compliance. The incumbent will report to the chief operating officer and also will work closely with Carnegie's president and other members of the executive management group.

Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day matters regarding union-related contract negotiations and implementation.

Draft job descriptions, engage with external counsel, and help lead the negotiation process.

Oversee the implementation of any agreed-upon contract provisions and address union grievances.

Ensure compliance with legal policies across the organization (such as FARA and GDPR) and nonprofit compliance.

Perform contract review and advise the executive management group on legal risks.

Provide guidance on questions related to Carnegie's global centers, develop guidance materials and policies, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Law degree and at least 7 years of relevant legal experience.

Labor-related experience or the ability to get up to speed quickly on labor law.

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and justify legal recommendations.

Location and Compensation Located in Dupont Circle, this is not a virtual position. Carnegie employees are required to work in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and can work from home Mondays and Fridays.
