Overview Certified Dosimetrist (CMD) – Full‑time, 100% onsite position at Virginia Cancer Specialists, an affiliate of McKesson Specialty Health and part of The US Oncology Network. Location: Fairfax, Virginia.

Collaborate with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist to develop, generate, and evaluate treatment plans. Use computer software and a variety of patient imaging modalities to delineate target and critical structures, supporting adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program.

Responsibilities

Generate radiation therapy treatment plans using computer software and various imaging modalities, demonstrating strong attention to detail.

Identify and delineate anatomy and anatomical positioning on various imaging modalities.

Identify the need to create compensation filters, custom shields, and other beam‑modifying devices.

Perform patient‑specific quality assurance activities under the direction of the medical physicist.

Complete treatment plans accurately and in a timely manner based on complexity.

Adapt to ever‑changing technology and be open to learning new systems and techniques.

Perform or assist in the planning of the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices while consulting during treatment simulations as necessary in accordance with state laws.

Effectively communicate plan details with physicians and staff; offer alternative solutions.

Consult and communicate to therapist staff regarding implementation of the treatment plan, including correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment variables.

Document treatment planning and quality assurance tasks accurately.

Transfer treatment plans, treatment parameters, field DRR’s, and setup photos and notes to the ROIS (record & verify system); understand the transfer process and verify post‑transfer information.

Accurately enter codes for technical treatment planning and quality assurance tasks.

Perform general computerized tasks such as word processing, spreadsheet management, file organization, and data backup.

Assist in intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures and subsequent manual and/or computerized calculation of dose distributions after appropriate credentialing by the medical physicist.

Perform quality assurance procedures on the treatment planning system, linear accelerator, and brachytherapy device under supervision of the medical physicist.

Perform radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of radiation oncology equipment under supervision of the medical physicist.

Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students and residents, as assigned.

Assist with radiopharmaceutical quality assurance and injection procedures.

Assist with radiation therapy treatments.

Qualifications Must hold current certification as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) issued by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB). Experience with radiation therapy planning software and manual calculation techniques is required.

Physical Demands Regular requirements: sit and use hands to manipulate a computer keyboard and mouse. Occasional requirements: stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, lift or move up to 30 pounds. Vision and hearing must be corrected to normal ranges. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
