Associate Electrical Engineer - Substation Black & Veatch Corporation , an employee‑owned company dedicated to sustainable infrastructure, is looking for an Associate Electrical Engineer to support substation projects in Chicago, IL.

Key Responsibilities

Support substation projects up to 765kV in engineering, detailed design, and EPC.

Develop protection and control design deliverables: protective relays, panel arrangements, one‑line/base‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring, and equipment wiring.

Create physical design deliverables: yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control‑building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.

Prepare equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.

Correspond with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.

Participate in travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews, coordination, and field verification.

Adhere to or prepare design budgets and schedules, including QA/QC responsibilities.

Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.

Preferred Qualifications

High‑voltage (HV) substation design experience – physical and/or protection & controls.

Engineering‑in‑Training (EIT) Certification.

Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program.

Minimum of 1 year related work experience.

Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor‑vehicle records).

Compensation $91,047.00 – $152,053.00 (Chicago, IL). Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days.
