Director of Revenue Intelligence - Patient Financial Services - Corporate 42nd Street - Full-Time - Days (Hybrid) The Director of Revenue Intelligence for the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) is responsible for optimizing financial performance using business intelligence, advanced analytics, and AI-driven solutions. This role supports strategies to improve revenue cycle processes, analyzes data for trends and opportunities, and ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency throughout the revenue cycle. The Director will report to the Senior Director of Revenue Recognition and Reporting of the MSHS. This is a unique opportunity to build a modern analytics-driven revenue intelligence program from the ground up in partnership with executive stakeholders, technology teams, and revenue cycle leadership. This role will lead the design, implementation, and long-term success of an enterprise revenue intelligence function that applies advanced analytics, data science, and AI to grow and protect revenue. The individual will build and guide a centralized capability for revenue intelligence, develop advanced analytics, and drive adoption of AI tools, actionable insights, and identification of high-impact anomalies and opportunities. Responsibilities
Lead the development and adoption of advanced analytics and AI solutions to grow and protect revenue across the revenue cycle. Identify and prioritize new revenue opportunities using advanced analytics, market trends, and operational insights. Employ cutting-edge technologies (e.g., AI) to develop projections and create forward-looking models to predict revenue and cash flow streams. Monitor, measure, and report the outcomes of revenue initiatives, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement. Communicate insights and results directly to senior leadership, translating complex analyses into actionable strategies and clear ROI. Maintain strong understanding of revenue cycle metrics and build processes to enhance analytical capabilities, process improvement identification, and technology enhancements. Maintain strong understanding of various system functionalities and lead the team in identifying and implementing improvements for performance, workflow, and cost-to-collect reduction. Define the vision and roadmap for enterprise revenue cycle analytics and intelligence, with a focus on usability, actionability, and performance improvement. Work extensively in Epic, particularly in Hospital Billing (HB) and Professional Billing (PB), to design and optimize reports and analytics utilizing Epic’s data repositories (Clarity and Caboodle). Understand and document business/clinical needs and recommend appropriate solutions. Proficiency in SQL development using best-practice industry standards to support revenue modeling and analytics. Collaborate with finance, operations, DTP, and clinical partners to align analytics priorities with strategic goals. Build effective, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across departments. Build and manage a high-performing team of revenue intelligence analysts. Resourceful in creating or fine-tuning the processes necessary to complete the work and able to organize people and activities. Challenge existing norms to facilitate fully informed decision-making and institute balanced decision-making by identifying risks and opportunities. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with revenue cycle leaders, key stakeholders, and strategic partners. Oversee data quality monitoring and continuous improvement programs and serve as the voice of revenue intelligence and analytics within the revenue cycle. Provide leadership and support governance processes to achieve effective, efficient, standardized, and compliant practices across the revenue cycle. Maintain strong understanding of revenue performance metrics and payer mix. Ensure compliance with all HIPAA privacy and security standards. Conform to established policies, procedures, processes, and Standards of Behavior. Performs other duties as required by the Senior Director of Revenue Recognition and Reporting. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or Computer Science; Master’s preferred. 7 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare analytics or revenue cycle operations. Essential skills include strong analytical, leadership, and communication abilities, with proficiency in data analysis, financial management, healthcare coding, and understanding of regulatory requirements. Certification in Epic Clarity Data Model, focusing on the clinical aspects. Certification in Epic Caboodle Data Model, designed for data warehousing and analytics within the Epic ecosystem. Demonstrated success in a large health system facility or multi-entity revenue cycle environment. Deep familiarity with patient accounting systems, HER/EMR systems (e.g., Epic), and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Excel). Must have Epic certifications in Clarity and Caboodle data models and development experience in clinical, revenue cycle, and encounter data models. Extensive knowledge of healthcare data such as hospital/physician claims, utilization data, and healthcare industry coding systems and revenue codes. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with senior management and other leaders, with the ability to communicate concepts to non-IT audiences. Experience implementing data governance, metadata management, and reporting standardization with ability to influence across departments. Strong leadership skills to motivate cross-departmental teams toward excellence using collaborative approaches. Demonstrated ability to engage in persuasive dialogue with diverse groups to achieve identified goals. Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems to develop and administer multifaceted revenue processes. Ability to enlist cooperation and build teams in environments resistant to change. Maintain a high level of positive energy and creativity during periods of elevated work demands.
