Position Summary

The

Lead Forklift Operator

is responsible for performing and overseeing daily material handling activities while ensuring safety, accuracy, and productivity standards are met. This role serves as a working lead, providing guidance, training, and coordination to forklift operators to support efficient warehouse operations and the achievement of departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities

Operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment safely and efficiently to move, load, unload, stack, and stage products and materials.

Serve as the primary point of contact for forklift operators on assigned shifts.

Provide training, mentorship, and daily work direction to forklift operators, ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.

Coordinate workload distribution and assist the supervisor with staffing adjustments based on workload priorities.

Monitor performance, quality, and productivity to ensure operational goals are met.

Conduct pre-shift safety checks and ensure equipment is properly maintained and inspected.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, operations, and warehouse staff to resolve issues and maintain workflow.

Assist in tracking and maintaining accurate inventory through scanning, documentation, and verification procedures.

Support and promote a safety-first culture by enforcing safety policies and reporting any incidents or equipment issues immediately.

Perform other warehouse duties as required, including picking, staging, and general housekeeping.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a forklift operator in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment. Prior leadership or lead experience .

Certifications:

Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification prior to start.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong communication and leadership skills.

Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control processes.

Ability to train and mentor others effectively.

Attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.

Frequent exposure to warehouse environment, including varying temperatures and noise levels.

Must be able to operate powered industrial trucks safely and efficiently throughout the shift.

Work Schedule

Full-time position; schedule may vary based on business needs (including weekends or overtime).

Lead may be required to assist across multiple shifts as needed for training or operational support.

Safety compliance and incident-free performance.

Operator training completion rates and performance improvement.

Productivity and throughput targets achieved.

Positive feedback from team and supervisors regarding leadership support.
