We have the unique opportunity for a Director, Commodities Sales to join our Energy Origination group in North America. The broad mandate to grow market share in Commodities will require the candidate to utilize knowledge of physical and financial energy markets to originate, structure and execute energy derivative and financing transactions for BMO’s Corporate and Commercial client base. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, sales acumen and market insight to develop and execute strategic sales initiatives while structuring deals to meet the needs of our clients and the firm. The candidate also identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and improved service to internal and external clients and implements positive change within the business unit.
Group Overview The Commodities Origination group is a team within Global Markets’ Global Origination business responsible for managing and executing energy commodity hedging and financing transactions for BMO’s investor, corporate and commercial clients. Working closely with the Commodities Trading Team as well as internal banking partners, the Commodity Sales team serves as product experts across the energy commodity universe spanning derivative products, financing structures and physical commodity optimization.
Key Areas of Accountability Skills
Minimum 7 years energy market client-focused experience developing and structuring unique physical and financial transactions
Maintains strong client relationships, leveraging deep understanding of their needs to proactively tailor risk management or optimization solutions
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including listening, understanding, and responding to internal and external inquiries
Demonstrated track record of business development and origination success
Expertise in financial computer applications including MS Excel, VBA, and Bloomberg. Strong proficiency in other Microsoft Office products.
Able to exercise independent thought and judgment under limited supervision and to adapt to new tasks with little notice
Creative, insightful and eager to learn
Knowledge
Demonstrates strong knowledge of Energy markets – financial and physical
Thorough knowledge of derivatives including options
Knowledge of banking and risk concepts as well as derivative and commodity regulations
Current on existing and emerging global energy industry trends
Relevant experience and passion for working in a direct client coverage role, providing comprehensive account coverage as well as business development to identify and cultivate growth opportunities
Transaction Modelling & Financial Analysis
Experience structuring and negotiating bespoke derivative and financing solutions for clients throughout the energy value chain
Use abilities in financial and fundamental analysis to communicate effectively and succinctly with Commodity Trading team and clients to facilitate transactions
Develop marketing ideas and help initiate transactions through appropriate presentation of data
Understand all software systems for pricing transactions
Assist in development and maintenance of fundamental models
Collaboration
Be a strong partner within the Commodities Origination team to share market information and solve problems
Build relationships with product partners across Global Markets to provide/solicit cross-product mandates for new opportunities
Continuously coach and mentor Analysts and Associates across the team
Ensure high levels of client satisfaction through strong cross-department coordination with internal stakeholders in Global Markets, I&CB, Commercial Banking, Global Markets Engineering, Trade Floor Supervision, Market Risk, Credit Risk, Client Onboarding, Legal & Compliance
Salary $275,000 USD
