Systems Administrator

Location:
Remote (must work PST hours).
Duration: 8–12 months, with possibility to extend and long‑term conversion to Peraton.

Overview The County of San Diego has outsourced its IT and application support to Peraton through 2028. This role supports the migration of ArcGIS from on‑prem to AWS EC2, expanding the team from two to four to meet an accelerated timeline.
Responsibilities Support the migration of ArcGIS to AWS EC2, including configuration, deployment, and performance tuning. Manage and optimize Windows Server instances – patching, IIS configuration, and certificate management. Develop and maintain Python and PowerShell scripts for system automation, deployment, and monitoring. Administer Esri ArcGIS Enterprise applications and collaborate with GIS developers. Monitor system health, troubleshoot outages, and implement performance enhancements. Implement security controls, backup strategies, SSL certificates, and ensure compliance with AWS and ITIL best practices. Support spatial database environments (SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and maintain data integrity. Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Qualifications & Skills Intermediate level experience. Proficiency with Windows Server, PowerShell, Python, and cloud platforms (AWS EC2). Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and GIS infrastructure. Knowledge of load balancing, high‑availability, and SSL certificate management. Experience in government or large enterprise environments and ITIL frameworks is a plus.
Pay & Benefits Bill Rate Target: $100 – 110/hr. W2 Rate Target: $60 – 70/hr. Benefits include medical, dental, vision; 401(k); life insurance; disability; HSA; transportation; employee assistance; PTO.
