Overview
The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is seeking a
Senior Linux Systems Administrator Range Network
to support our government customer in Kekaha, Hawai‘i. The role focuses on overseeing and managing enterprise-level Linux infrastructure in support of U.S. Navy operations within a DoD environment. The candidate should have deep technical Linux expertise, lead secure system administration, and a strong working knowledge of RMF and NIST SP 800-53 controls.
Responsibilities
Administer and maintain Red Hat Linux (RHEL) and other Linux environments in classified and unclassified Navy networks.
Implement and maintain RMF security controls and ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and DoD cybersecurity policies.
Apply and manage patches and updates according to DoD and Navy policies.
Perform system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation using tools such as ACAS, ESS, and SCAP.
Develop and maintain automation scripts for administrative tasks and configuration (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and manage virtual infrastructure lifecycle.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams on ATO packages, POA&Ms, and audit readiness.
Maintain system documentation, configuration baselines, and SOPs.
Provide mentorship to junior administrators and IT staff.
Manage automated installation methods and system imaging (SCCM, VMware, Nutanix, Satellite, Ansible).
Participate in Change Control Boards (CCBs) and Configuration Management Boards (CMBs).
Assist with incident response, forensic analysis, and system recovery efforts.
Support backup and disaster recovery strategies using tools (Veeam, Commvault).
Evaluate and recommend new Linux technologies and DoD-approved tools to improve performance and security.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
Team environment participation across project life cycles.
Physical and environmental requirements: lifting 25-50 lbs (two-person lift); walking/standing, crawling, kneeling, stooping, climbing; extended workdays and field assignments as applicable.
Education, Degree, and Certifications
Bachelor's Degree in IT or a related field with at least seven (7) years of System Administration/IT experience.
HS diploma/GED with twelve (12) years of experience can substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
Advanced certifications may substitute for degree or experience.
DOD 8570/8140 IAT II
One of the following OS Certifications is required: Linux, Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) prior to start.
Required Skills & Experience
Knowledge of IT systems and advanced IT infrastructure concepts.
Proficiency with personal computers, software, and standard office equipment.
Basic keyboarding skills and attention to neatness and accuracy.
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Desired Skills & Experience
Advanced knowledge and certification in Windows Server and RHEL is highly desirable.
Automation and scripting: PowerShell, Bash, Python.
VMware/Nutanix certification.
Experience with Trellix, LogRhythm, and MDE.
DoD systems and infrastructure experience; knowledge of cybersecurity methods and techniques.
Broad DoD IT systems knowledge across Windows, RHEL, and related infrastructure concepts.
Citizenship and Clearance
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Top Secret clearance is required with T5 or equivalent (SSBI) investigation level. Applicants must currently possess a Secret clearance or be eligible to obtain clearance prior to employment, and must maintain clearance for access to classified information throughout employment.
