The Kansas City VA Medical Center is looking for a highly qualified Section Chief of Infectious Disease to provide comprehensive, efficient, and evidence-based care and treatments to all patients presenting with infectious diseases in an outpatient clinical setting and provide consultation services in an inpatient setting or emergent need. The Infectious Disease Section Chief position involves providing leadership and oversight to the Infectious Disease department. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification Approved residencies: (1) ACGME; (2) AOA; or (3) Other residencies followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged Scope of practice allows restricted duties under supervision Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Infectious Disease Experience with and/or certified in Hospital Epidemiology Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity Long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting of at least 35 pounds may be required; transferring/lifting patients and objects may be required Staff may be required to don and doff protective equipment in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures Duties
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm with rotating call including weekends Provide evidence-based care in an outpatient clinical setting and provide consultation services in an inpatient setting or emergent need Sign notes, address consultations and queries, and complete required documentation per VA policy and KCVA medical staff bylaws Work collaboratively with other specialties Communicate effectively with veterans, their representatives, and VA staff Compliance with all health care system policies, rules, regulations, and by-laws Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS); enroll in RQI and maintain compliance Participation in clinical trainee education including supervision of clinical rotation Provide diagnosis and treatment of adult patients presenting with infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, illness after travel, diseases resistant to treatment, Lyme disease, and Hepatitis B and C Develop and implement strategic plans for the section\'s growth and development, aligning with the institution\'s goals Meet clinical performance measures related to Infectious Disease and assist hospital leadership in facility-wide measures Oversee personnel management for direct reports, including credentialing and privileging, defining scope of practice/privileges, and conducting performance evaluations Coordinate daily ID provider coverage for inpatient and outpatient care Participate in, delegate, and approve the clinical on-call schedule Serve as Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control Mentor and support division members to foster a positive work environment Seniorities
