Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Applicants must meet VHA policy requirements and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines award amount and eligibility period.

Qualifications Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship (non‑citizens only under VA policy).

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved institution.

Full and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state, territory, or DC.

Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry or Addiction Psychiatry.

Physical requirements as per VA directive 5019.

Duties & Responsibilities

Promote veterans’ recovery from addictions and substances of abuse.

Initiate and manage care for veterans requiring methadone maintenance in the Opioid Treatment Program.

Provide Medication Assisted Treatment in Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Programs and Residential Substance Rehab.

Train Addiction Fellows and Psychiatry Residents in substance abuse programs.

Conduct psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population including geriatric, post‑deployment veterans, and those with psychosocial issues.

Deliver therapeutic interventions: diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation, suicide risk assessment, crisis intervention, and comprehensive psychiatric care.

Ensure compliance with TJC, CARF, HIPAA, VA policies, clinical guidelines, and mandatory continuing education.

Coordinate consults and triage specialist referrals; lead mental health team meetings; participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning.

Order diagnostic tests and consultations, and make appropriate treatment decisions.

Supervise and teach in support of the psychiatric residency program; perform on‑call duties.

Compensation & Benefits Base pay range: $270,000.00–$290,000.00 per year.
